The Hatchet Hangout big axe league is the perfect way to have fun throwing axes and making new friends! Big axe is a longer, bigger axe than the standard league throw at a further distance! We are World Axe Throwing League affiliated and this is a sanctioned league. Come challenge yourself with a new way to throw! This league is sanctioned by the WATL. Grab your Big Axe and join us for this 8-week competition.

Make sure to show up to your axe throwing league early to warm up and take practice throws for up to 30 minutes prior to the weekly start time. Leagues will start at 7pm local time at all locations. We follow the World Axe Throwing League standards and regulations for our Axe Throwing Leagues.
The WATL Big Axe League is a competition where competitors must throw their Big Axe, starting behind the 17ft line, but not ever crossing the 15ft mark. For the purposes of Big Axe throwing in the WATL, a Big Axe is considered to be any axe longer than 23 inches and heavier than three pounds. Big Axe games are half the length of a standard WATL hatchet game, consisting of only five throws and scores are uploaded in the WATL app against other throwers around the world. Because of this, accuracy and Kill Shots become even more important. Misses will add up quickly with less time to make up for poor throws. The excitement from Big Axe competition comes from the variance created by throwing a larger and heavier axe. This makes the axe harder to control and as such can lead to more room for error. Despite this added difficulty it is still rare for top level competitors to throw outside of the 4 ring.

SUNDAY BIG AXE LEAGUE NIGHT - SEASON 1 WATL LEAGUE 2024
The 2024 Season 1 Big Axe League schedule will start on Sunday January 7th. Our league will run on Sunday’s from 7PM-8:30PM, for a total of 8 weeks. Join in any week. Individual play, no experience needed. Hurry, we are only accepting 50 players! Call (727)235-0453 for more info.
WHAT ARE HATCHET HANGOUT BIG AXE LEAGUES?
Hatchet Hangout Leagues are recreational axe throwing leagues that are open to men & women who are looking to participate in something truly axe-cellent! Members play once a week (check back soon or sign-up for more info for the official start date) for 8 weeks, which includes 7 weeks of regular play & 1 tournament week on Sunday August 18th.
We run leagues by seasons (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall), so be sure to subscribe to our email or text lists and check our social media accounts to stay updated about leagues!

Practice session every week from 6:30-7:00 pm
League play begins at 7:00 pm and ends at 8:30 pm

▸ Sunday Afternoons
▸ Axe throwing leagues run for 8 weeks. You will be allowed practice throws and warm up (be there on time or early).
▸ Each league night allows every participant 4 matches.
▸ Each match is played against different opponents, selected at random and consists of the following:
5 throws per match.
Throwers will not switch sides during the 5 throw games.
In a best 2/3 match, players will switch sides between games.

We at Hatchet Hangout are thrilled to announce our popular axe throwing leagues! Join other enthusiastic throwers of all experience levels and compete in a 2-hour weekly session. Make new friends, sharpen your skills, and brag about having the coolest hobby in Downtown St Pete.
WATL - WORLD AXE THROWING LEAGUE IS HERE!
Your score for each throw will be tallied and recorded. This will ensure that your ranking you based on your skills at hitting the bullseye and "kill shots" to get top scores.
The top scorers will then make it to the Championship Round in week 8 to determine the Regional WATL Champion!
